Live Scan Fingerprinting Facts
If you are planning on working under the approval of any Florida state regulated agency, then you're going to need to pass a Level 2 Background Check.
From Real Estate and Life Insurance Agents, to Health Care Workers and Restaurant Owners, a Level 2 Background Check verified with electronic fingerprinting (Live Scan) will be required in order to apply for state licensure.
To help you save time and money, we have listed the most important things to know before scheduling your Live Scan fingerprinting.
What Is the ORI number?
The absolute first thing you need to know before contacting a Live Scan technician, is the ORI number. You will need to know your ORI number to schedule any Level II background check for the FDLE. So, what is an ORI Number?
ORI stands for “Originating Agency Identification” and it’s typically a 9 digit identifier that is associated with the specific agency you're applying to.
For Example: FL920010Z is the ORI number for Florida Real Estate Sales and Broker licensing, which is regulated by the DBPR.
Usually, the school preparing you for the licensing, or the organization for which you are applying to work for will provide you with the ORI number to give to the technician that is taking your fingerprints. Don't worry If you do not have the ORI number, you can easily search our list below, or the professionals at Miami Fingerprinting can help you conduct a search when you arrive.
** Please note, it is not the responsibility of the fingerprint technician to know the correct ORI number for your application. If the wrong ORI number is submitted, your results will not reach the organization for which you are intending to apply for, and you will need to pay at least the government fee to have them resubmitted with the correct ORI number. **.

Once you have completed your Live Scan Fingerprinting, you are provided with a Transaction Control Number (TCN), to track the results from your fingerprints that were submitted to Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). The “Transaction Status” is only related to the processing within the FDLE. There may be additional processing time within the organization requiring the criminal history check.
